Ktima Gerovassiliou… the brainchild of Vangelis Gerovassiliou!
On the slopes of Epanomi, a few kilometres from the city of Thessaloniki, a meticulously tended vineyard surrounds the modern winery, where the renowned Ktima Gerovassiliou wines are produced. At Ktima Gerovassiliou the vineyard is cultivated with great care & enthusiasm that leads V. Gerovassiliou to constantly research & experiment with Greek & foreign varieties, both well- & less- known. New technological advances blend well with tradition throughout vine growing & vinification processes. The aim is to produce high-quality wines from grapes cultivated in the privately-owned vineyard which exhibit all the distinctive characteristics of the specific microclimate (terroir) of Epanomi. The creation of the Wine Museum, in combination with its various organised activities, including visits, wine tastings, educational programs, seminars, publications, lectures, theatrical, & musical performances, further contributes to the diffusion of wine-growing culture.
“Xinomavro – Roze” is produced from Xinomavro, a charismatic but demanding Greek red grape variety from Macedonia, which has adapted perfectly to the microclimate of Epanomi in Northern Greece. Following skin contact in cold for a few hours, the vinification is carried out in stainless steel tanks at 18°C. The wine then remains in contact with its primary lees for a few months, gaining in body & structure. It has a pale pink-salmon colour & aromas of citrus fruits (pink grapefruit), berries, cherries & strawberries. It presents as rich & well-structured with good acidity & an aromatic finish (sour cherries-cherries). It pairs nicely with lobster pasta, shrimp saganaki with tomato, mincemeat pasta, stews, summer Mediterranean flavours & exotic cuisines.
Best enjoyed chilled at 10-12°C.
