It all started about a century ago when the Haitoglou family arrived in Thessaloniki from Minor Asia. The most valuable thing brought with them back then was not their belongings, but the love for family traditions & the secret family recipes utilizing the finest sesame, namely “Tahini” & “Halva”.
Nowadays, “Haitoglou Bros” create their “Whoelgrain Greek Tahini” with selected sesame seeds that meet their high-quality standards & are processed in their modern exemplar unit. There the sesame is going through the cleaning stages with mild treatments & ultimate respect to the seeds & is washed with biologically cleaned tap water that is used for plant watering afterwards. Then with the company’s own cutting edge technology that uses 80% less energy compared to conventional methods, the sesame seeds are getting free of any harmful microorganisms while on the same time they are evenly roasted, developing their characteristic taste. Following, they are naturally ground in traditional hand-carved stone mills, developing the uncomparable delicate taste & fine aromas that make the “Makedoniko Tahini” stand out. Finally, the fresh tahini is pasteurized in order to meet the highest hygiene & quality standards before sealed in glass jars.
