Oenology Jewels… from the Jewel of the Ionian!
Kefalonia owes its great winemaking wealth to two main factors: the wonderful & rare varieties & the charismatic & diverse terroir. The noble Robola, the dynamic Mavrodaphne, the multipurpose Zakynthino, the tannic white Vostilidi, the aromatic Muscat & the elegant Tsaousi, are all rare varieties with a unique oenological interest. Each farmed at their ideal vineyard, they are able to offer wines of the highest quality, creating a wide range of selected wines. In Thiramonas, a small picturesque village in Southern Kefalonia, Nikos Petrakopoulos carries on a centuries-old family tradition. As a descendant of the Melissinoi & Solomoi families, he aspires to leave his personal mark on the island’s cultural promotion, building on its wine-making wealth & rare local grape varieties. With a vision of showcasing the wealth of Kefalonian grape & vine diversity, he creates unique, high-quality wines from the valuable local varieties & from charismatic vineyards of the island. With organic practices & handcrafted processes, he offers a rare collection of young & aged wines in a limited number of bottles.
“Orange Zakynthino” is an organic & natural, unfine & unfiltered, dry orange wine from Zakynthino grapes originating from old, pre-phylloxera vineyards in Southern Kefalonia. The age, the soils & the great care of the vineyard contribute to the excellent quality. It is vinified as natural as possible (without sulfites), with short extraction of skins in the must. A rare wine with intensity, richness & high ageing potential, in a very limited number of bottles.
