Time for another product comparison through the eyes of a “Food Scientist”… Our apologies but we have to deconstruct the classic Greek hazelnut spread!!!
So, we will compare the classic Merenda with our favourite cocoa spreads with hazelnuts from Sisinni. All of them are based on sugar… so you should always consume them in moderation. Then we have the vegetable oils/fats & the difference is that in our Sisinni spreads there is no palm oil! Subsequently, we see that Merenda has an excess of whey powder while the non-vegan Sisinni spread contains whole milk powder… & no, whey powder can not be considered as a supplement here but as a byproduct of cheesemaking that is of lower cost compared to the whole milk powder!

Next are the skimmed cocoa powder & hazelnut contents. Regarding the cocoa powder, Merenda has a content of 6.5% compared to the 8% of the non-vegan & the 16% of the vegan Sisinni spreads. Additionally, the hazelnut content is almost double for both Sisinni spreads compared to the one of Merenda!!! Finally, & with respect to the ingredients, we see that Merenda is also not gluten-free…
The final comparison has to do with the texture & taste that you are welcome to discover yourself! The cost comparison is obvious… & the question is “Will you remain classic or you will follow the Sisinni trend?”
Update 19/09/24: The cost range for Merenda is from 3.35€ to 5.15€ while the prices of our products is 3.15€ for the normal spread & 3.45€ for the vegan one.
